Reception Area – A Crafted Welcome Rooted in Heritage

The reception is conceived as the visual and emotional anchor of The Rochester Garden House, establishing a distinctive identity from the moment of arrival. A bespoke cane-fronted counter, incorporating a lowered accessible section, is framed by full-height dark timber joinery and a deep-green Rochester feature panel. Curated objects, warm pendant lighting and tropical planting give the backdrop the intimacy of a residential library rather than a conventional lobby. Above, the crisp coffered ceiling and sculptural fan reinterpret the bungalow’s colonial heritage, while patterned flooring and woven textures add richness at ground level. The result is an inclusive and memorable welcome that balances tradition with contemporary hospitality.

Café and Dining Area – Contemporary Colonial Warmth

Designed as an intimate extension of the garden-house experience, the café balances heritage character with relaxed contemporary hospitality. A bespoke timber banquette maximises seating along the wall, paired with cane-backed chairs and sage-green cushions for tactile contrast. Black louvred windows, dark cornices and warm timber flooring reinterpret the bungalow’s colonial vocabulary, while vertical screens gently filter views and daylight from the garden. Woven wall sconces, recessed lighting and a soft floor lamp create a layered evening ambience, resulting in a dining space that feels refined, comfortable and quietly residential.

2nd Storey 3D Plan – Private Retreats Along a Tropical Verandah

This rendered axonometric view presents the upper storey as a calm residential retreat above the hotel’s active public spaces.
